LENT ENTERPRISES DIGITAL TEAMS WITH LUNG ASSOCIATION FOR LUNG CANCER AWARENESS

This holiday season and on the heels of the 3rd annual LUNG FORCE Walk, Lent Enterprises Digital (LED) and The American Lung Association in Hawaii have partnered to honor the wahine in our lives who have been impacted by lung cancer, and their families.

“Mommy Breathe” tells the story of a young girl whose mother is dying from lung cancer. The video raises awareness of the #1 cancer killer of men and women, yet stigma remains high, early detection is low, few resources and support are available, and there remains no cure. “Mommy Breathe visualizes the idea behind LUNG FORCE, the Lung Association’s nationwide initiative on lung cancer in women,” said Kim Nguyen, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Hawaii. “It’s a beautiful and powerful piece that too many of our families – here and throughout the nation – are unfortunately experiencing.”

The video is a moving tribute to Jason Lent’s mother; Lent is the President of Lent Enterprises Digital, an innovative and creative media firm. “In my life and career both as a musician and as a creative director, I have never created anything as meaningful or as personal as this video. My mother unexpectedly passed away of lung cancer right before my 21st birthday and it was devastating to me. She was my best friend. This video is the cumulative expression of my feelings. To have my personal tribute to her be used as a platform to help raise awareness of lung cancer moves me beyond words.”

Together, LED and the Lung Association are making lung cancer in women a public health priority, drive policy change, and increase critical research funding. According to the Lung Association’s Women’s Lung Health Barometer, a survey of more than 1,000 American women, current awareness about the impact of lung cancer in women is extremely low. Even though lung cancer has long been the top cancer killer of women (surpassing breast cancer deaths since 1987), the Barometer revealed that only one percent of women named the disease as a cancer that is top-of-mind for them. Statistics show that, on average, fewer than half of all women with lung cancer will be alive one year after diagnosis. And anyone can get lung cancer – two-thirds of lung cancer cases are in those who have never smoked or are former smokers. Here in Hawaii, about 340 women live with lung cancer and another 223 women lose their lives to the disease.

The video launches today; view it at https://vimeo.com/195918746. Share the video, and help us raise awareness against lung cancer and for lung health.
